Welcome to 2023! It's National Hobby Month as well as International Creativity Month, and we at NPL have plenty to spark your creativity this year. Ready to pick up a new-to-you hobby? Stop by our Create Joy display in the adult nonfiction section for some inspo. Whether you want to home-brew, crochet adorable amigurumi, or paint your way to inner peace, our step-by-step guides in the 634s through 746s can get you started. If you'd rather try before you buy your own supplies, watch our website and event calendar for upcoming Take & Make crafts. We provide the supplies and directions while you get crafty with these at home. January's Adult & Teen 'Take and Make:' a Papier-Mache Fairy Lamp.
If you'd like to craft in the company of others, we offer craft programs monthly, too. This month, sessions include "DIY Framed Book Page Art" and "Tabletop Miniature Painting." Seats are limited and registration is required, so snag a spot soon if you want to come. We also have set monthly creative programs such as Adult Writing Meet-up (first Saturday of the month, 2-3.30 pm), Paper Crafts Club (second Tuesday of the month, 10 am - noon) or Knitting and Crocheting Club (first and third Wednesday of the month, 10 am - noon). All skill levels from novice to expert are welcome, and registration is required.
Looking for more hobbies and ways to get creative? Check out the items in our Library of Things. We've got binoculars for aspiring birdwatchers, a Nature Art kit to transform found treasures, knitting loom kits, and much more. And don't forget: for even more inspiration, step around the corner into our periodicals section. We've got many crafting magazines to give you ideas.
Whether you've resolved to pick up a new hobby or hone existing skills, we've got plenty of programs and collections at Normal Public Library to help you. Get in touch with your creative side at Normal Public Library this January!
