Come Clubbing at NPL

Library Closed for Thanksgiving

NPL will be closed at 5 pm Wednesday, November 27 and remain closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 for the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Our Fell Avenue lot bookdrop and off-site bookdrops will remain available. We will reopen at 9 am on November 30.

Book clubbing, that is. (Though the other kind would also be amazing). NPL now offers several book club options if you want to deep dive into various kinds of reads or listens. Among these are:

Adult Reading Challenge Book Brunch: This club meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 10-11 am in the NPL Boardroom to discuss books or audio consumed for that month's Adult Reading Challenge. In March, we'll be reading or listening to a coming-of-age story, then we'll dish about science fiction in April. May will serve up a book by an Asian-American author for our theme. Upcoming meetings: March 28; April 25; May 23.

Stranger Than Fiction: This book club meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 6.30 - 7.30 pm at Stave Wine Bar to discuss a specific nonfiction read. Upcoming meetings: April 12, Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness by Susannah Cahalan; May 10, Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-delusion by Jia Tolentino.

Recipe Rotisserie: This cookbook club meets on a Sunday afternoon every other month in Community Room B. Participants will choose a recipe from that month's featured cookbook or theme then prepare and bring it to share at that month's club. Upcoming meetings: Sunday, March 26 at 2 pm: Half Baked Harvest Every Day; Sunday, May 7 at 2 pm: Theme, sweet or savory pies (choose any cookbook's recipe).

Romance Me: This club meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from 6.30 - 7.30 pm in the NPL Boardroom to discuss a specific (usually funny & contemporary) romance. Upcoming meetings: March 23, The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams; April 27, The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood; May 25, Girl Gone Viral by Alisha Rai.

For all of these clubs, registration is required and space is limited. Copies of books selected for each club (except for Book Brunch) are kept atop the Hold Shelf for checkout.

Are there any reading genres or book clubs you'd like to see that we don't host yet, like mystery or science fiction? Let us know and we'll see if we can put something together. Remember: Our meeting rooms may now be reserved for community meetings. If you want to start your own Horror Novel and Amigurumi Crochet Club, reserve a space for your club today! (Let me know when you're meeting. I WANT TO CROCHET TINY PLAGUE DOCTORS, TOO).

There's something on the NPL Book Club shelf for everyone. Register, read, and rave at NPL's book clubs this year!
