Voices from the Home: Stories of the Great War from Normal, Illinois

Join us for a riding tour of sites related to World War I on the grounds of the former Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's School in Normal, Illinois. This tour is expected to last between 45-60 minutes.

This tour, created by Ruth Cobb, highlights the physical spaces on the grounds and offers some experiences of those whose lives were entwined with this place as the world went to war.

Voices from the Home: Stories of the Great War from Normal, Illinois is presented by Normal Public Library and made possible by a contribution from Normal Township, which has offered shuttle services for the tour. Tour materials will be made available on this website soon as the tour was created and designed to be a self-guided tour.

Please meet at:
The former Illinois Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Children’s School
Community Activity Center at One Normal Plaza
1110 Douglas Street, Normal, IL  61761

We will meet at the eagle monument in front of the Community Activity
Center, and then board the bus for the rest of the tour.

Please park in the lot to the southeast of the Activity Center.

This event is part of our World War I Centennial. This event is for all ages. Registration is now open.
