NPL’s own Kathleen Kirk will read from her new chapbook, The Towns (Unicorn Press, 2018), about small towns in the Midwest and historic outlaws of the American South. Terri Ryburn of Ryburn Place will introduce Kathleen, who had her first release reading at Terri’s historic Route 66 shop at 305 Pine St., Normal. Kirk’s available chapbooks will be available for sale & signing at the NPL reading.

Kathleen Kirk is the author of eight poetry chapbooks, including The Towns (Unicorn Press, 2018), ABCs of Women’s Work (Red Bird, 2015) and Spiritual Midwifery, forthcoming from Red Bird later in 2018. Her work has appeared in a variety of print and online journals, including Greensboro Review, Nimrod, storySouth, Spoon River Poetry Review, and Waccamaw. She graduated from Kenyon College with a degree in Poetry and Political Philosophy, a synoptic major in English, Drama, and Political Science. After working as an actor in Chicago, she earned a Masters in Writing from DePaul University, where she taught creative writing, composition, and literature. A past associate editor of Poetry East and co-editor of RHINO, she is currently the poetry editor for Escape Into Life, an online magazine of literature and art. Kathleen works part-time at the Normal Public Library, where she facilitates the Poetry is Normal open mic series and the Poetry is Normal Presents guest poet series, which is also supported by the Normal Public Library Foundation.
