An Inside Look: Human Terrain
Tuesday, October 12, 2021
7-8 pm at Heartland Theatre Company

An Inside Look, a collaboration between Normal Public Library and Heartland Theatre Company, returns to give a behind-the-scenes view of producing Human Terrain in a contemporary production with the safety protocols necessary during a pandemic! Because the library café is not yet available for live programming, An Inside Look: Human Terrain will take place on Tuesday, October 12, 7-8 pm, at Heartland Theatre, in the Community Activity Center at 1110 Douglas St., Normal, the building to the north of the circular drive at One Normal Plaza.

An Inside Look: Human Terrain will feature a panel of theatre artists answering questions about producing this contemporary play. A searing drama that plunges us into the middle of the war in Iraq and follows closely an American anthropologist named Mabry. Embedded within a military unit, she is charged with the task of teaching our military about the culture they are dealing with. How does one teach compassion and understanding to those whose inclinations may be to “shoot first and ask questions later?” It is the story of war through two female lenses—that of an American and that of an Iraqi. Human Terrain opens November 4 at Heartland Theatre.

Depending on current guidance, masks may be required for all participants.
